This is our next generation 20″ overflow kit. The internal box comes with a removable weir/lid that is easily removeable to clean. The external box has a one piece euro-brace for added strength and uses 1″ replaceable slip style bulkhead fittings for the drains. We have now switch to a flush fit polycarbonate lid that will not bow overtime like the acrylic ones would. It is designed to optimized to flow between 1 – 1200 GPH (depending on the front weir you are using).
The removeable weirs come in three varieties:
- Slotted – The slotted variety is the one we have been producing since the beginning. They are 0.5″ tall slots that allow for a smooth flow of water over the top. They stay clean longer and are easier to clean when they become dirty. They also produce the lowest rise of water inside the display when running.
- Short Toothed – This is a traditional toothed weir, like the ones used on most other systems. They are 1/4″ wide vertical slots with a 1/4″ space in between each slot. The bottom of the short version sits 5/8″ higher than the long toothed version. This is important if you are running lower volumes of water through the system, because it ensures that the water line cannot be seen below the trim.
- Long Toothed – This is exactly the same as the short toothed, except that the slots are 5/8″ longer. You should only use this one if you are running higher levels of flow. If you are only running a few 200-400 GPH, the water level may not be high enough to be hidden by the trim on a standard tank. In that case, you would be better served by opting for the “Short Toothed” weir.
There are options for ordering just one front weir, or an additional one. You can order a second one of the same type (so you can always have one clean and ready to go), or if you are unsure which one you would like to use, you can purchase a second one of a different variety to try out. By ordering the second one along with the overflow, the price on shipping will not change. If you choose to order a second one at a later date, it will have additional shipping cost added. Either way, the additional weir is $20 more.
